The photo stamp pictured commemorates the start of the founding of the OVPA in 2002, when the buildings now owned by the OVPA, were listed for sale. Long-time Omena summer resident and eventual founder, Austin Jones, thought that it was important to protect Omena from development by those who wished to change our historic village.
Believing that there were enough residents who shared his passion to preserve the village, Austin sat on the bench in front of the Post Office for days, talking to people about his mission. Within a few days, the down payment and mortgage were secured and the Omena Village Preservation Association was established. The stamp went on sale in 2003. It represented the aspirations of a community to maintain that which was so special about the village.
