Villa Marquette Chapel“It took me a couple of moments to remember to breath, and when I did, it was more of a whistle than a breath.” said a Jesuit priest upon his first visit to Villa Marquette seeing the chapel for the first time. The chapel was built in 1941 by John Chester Hallett, (“Chester”), Villa Marquette’s second caretaker, with the help of the Jesuits, especially Brother Gus Scharf and Brother LaPrairie.

Villa Marquette ChapelThey teamed up on many projects the chapel being their greatest. From above the chapel is shaped like a cross, and inside several alters allow many Jesuits to say mass at the same time. Together they created a chapel which “breaths of sanctity”. 

With the help of Mary Hallett Stanton, and a booklet passed out at a tour of the Villa Marquette.
